The kids are born in the spring, usually while the mothers are at pasture.  New-born weight can range from 2-2,5 kg (twins) up to 3,5 kg.  Very rarely do the mothers or kids need our intervention, and a normal kid will stand and nurse within an hour of birth.  We eartag our newborns within 12 hours of birth, and leave them with their mothers for 3-4 months, when they are weaned naturally by their mothers.

Between 12 and 16 months all of our kids' fiber is evaluated by recognized laboratories and the kids are registered with the CapCashIt (Italian Cashmere Goat Association) in the appropriate section and microchipped accordingly.  We prefer to leave the kids with their mothers as long as possibile (female kids grow up alonside their mothers, whereas the male kids are separated at 4 months of age and grow up with the other 'buck' herd

Kids destined to be used for Pet Therapy, driving, hauling, etc., are bottle-raised, using mothers' milk. and are so domesticated they can be used for almost anything.  We strongly urge anyone considering rasing Cashmere Goats to start with a couple of wethers (castrated males) - this is a painless and inexpensive way to decide whether you are really cut out to be a goat breeder , and you'll be producing Cashmere whole you learn - what better deal can there be!
