SHEPHERD FOR A DAY

A day as a shepherd in Tuscany! What better way to experience rural Tuscany at its authentic best?!

Join us while we take our herd of cashmere goats grazing through the Tuscan countryside, and see a little bit of the Tuscan landscape reserved only for us 'locals' (and our goats of course!). We customize your visit to suit your group, so contact for the dates you would like and we'll get back to you with options.

Our farm is the only certified 'WILDLIFE FRIENDLY' FARM (https://wildlifefriendly.org/) in Europe and we promote co-existence with the local wildlife and predators, as well as sustainable landuse through the use of extensive grazing by our herd of Cashmere goats. Join us for the day and learn something new about our "KM 0" Cashmere while taking in the glorious, unspoilt Tuscan countryside

Our day normally starts at 10:00-10:30 AM (please check for last-minute changes due to weather conditions, etc.) We will accompany the goats to the bottom of our valley and then along one or more different itineraries that pass through abandoned fields, marginal farmland, unused tractor trails, meadows and hedgerows. Grazing goats is not to be confused with hiking---we are just keeping the goats in a loosely formed group as they pick and choose the best and tastiest plants within reach. Thanks to our collaboration with Jennifer Deckert, certified Environmental Guide, of www.Meama.it, we can customize your experience to your abilities

Time to slow down, take in the surrounding scenery, but more interestingly, discover the local wild flowers, spontaneous vegetation, and the frequent sightings of birds, wildlife like pheasant, grouse, foxes, badgers, hare, and, if we are lucky, occasionally a deer or a boar. Or a wolf. Or if you are a bird watcher do bring your binoculars!

We will stop at a local biodinamic vineyard for a wine tasting, and then a slow return to our farm. With the exception of the first and last 50 meters or so, most of the walk is flat or gently rolling, and does not require especially experienced hikers, although not suitable for small children

We provide hats, herding stick, thermos and rubber boots in the event of rain. In normal weather sturdy hiking shoes are sufficient and it is suggested to wear long pants in the event we go through particularly overgrown patches

On our return to our farm we will enjoy a Lunch under the Pegola of local veggies, organic sheep and goat cheeses, meats, and of course wine, dessert and espresso. Groups are limited to 10 px

A visit to our gift shop and a cuddle with a goat or two before leaving is suggested - proven GOAT THERAPY for those in need!

Expect to be finished by 3-4 pm

NOTE: we offer this experience from March thru Otober, depending on the weather; in August, due to extreme heat, we do not take reservations
