No one then really believed that Cashmere goats could be raised in Italy, but generation after generation the miniscule quantities of fiber were harvested and tested, selecting the best animals to increase production and decrease the fiber diameter. Cashmere breeders in many other countries shared their expertise to help turn their experience into this reality: statistics showed that genetic selection would work, and over the years, it has – through continuous testing, every year fiber production is greater and the quality is better. An unconventional dream in an unusual location had become reality
